I had just finished a huge commercial project, six designs for the Pershing Square Summer Concert Series, when the head of the park, Louise, asked if I could do one more artwork, this time for Gay Pride. Couldn’t say “no” because it’s such an important cause and gay people helped me so much with the concert series.
I really wanted to do a portrait of Divine (Harris Glenn Milstead). I had this photo all ready to go but then I accidentally mixed acrylic paint into the tempera paint which made it not wash off. Big trip to the hazardous waste depot followed. 🙁
